How To Clean Your Fireplace in Three Easy Steps

Many people do not clean their fireplace.  They feel that it is easier to hire someone to clean out the fireplace rather than do it themselves.  In some cases they may be right; however it is not always easier to hire someone.  Finding someone to clean your fire place can be a difficult task in today’s society because not as many people have fire places, nor do they use them as frequently.  Because of this there are not as many people that clean fire places for a living.  Another disadvantage of having someone else clean your fireplace is that it can be expensive. However cleaning your fire place is important to decrease the change of a chimney fire.

By following these simple steps you can clean your fireplace quickly and easily.

1. Gather up all of the items you will need.  These items can be found at the local hardware store and consist of plastic goggles, rubber gloves, a plastic drop cloth, a nylon scrub brush, a plastic bucket, and a small carton of tri-sodium phosphate.

2. After letting your fireplace completely cool remove the ashes and loose soot with your fireplace shovel. Use the wire brush to scrape the sides of the fireplace starting at the top, releasing more soot.

3. Mix the tri-sodium phosphate in the plastic bucket and use it to scrub the inside walls. This will completely clean the walls of any ash and soot.

It is important to remember to use your goggles and gloves at all times.  The plastic drop cloth will help keep your house clean from the flying soot.  It may sound like a lot of work, however cleaning your fireplace yourself can be much easier than you think.
