Regardless of how the hole came into existence, it should be relatively easy to fix once you secure the proper materials.

How you will ultimately fix your hole in your wall will depend upon the composition of your wall. Walls made from plaster require different and more permanent repair than drywall holes. The goal of wall repair is to make the wall appear as though nothing happened in the first place. Both plaster and drywall are capable of being tastefully repaired in such a way that the damage and repair will be invisible.

Here are some tips to follow when exploring how to repair a hole in your wall:

• Ascertain what your walls are made from to determine the correct procedure to be followed.

• If the walls are plaster, the hole can be filled in with new plaster as well can you fix a crack on your plaster wall. Tape around where the plaster has been applied. Apply builder’s mud to the patch, and then sand the surface until it is smooth. When the patched and taped hole has been smoothed and brushed off, the surface is ready to paint or wallpaper.

• If the surface to be fixed is drywall, it may be possible to secure a replacement piece of drywall to fit into the hole. If the hole is a small hole, it may be possible to repair it with tape and mud alone. Tape over the hole and then smooth the edges of the tape down with mud. Allow it to dry thoroughly and then paint it or paper it as needed. A step to sand it smooth may or may not be needed to prepare the spot for painting.

• In order to give the wall a newly finished look, it may be necessary to apply a thin coat over the entire wall in question after the repairs have dried.

Porch railing is also essential for safe passage when using steps.

The key to being pleased with your project is in choosing a railing pattern that you like and want to see at your own porch. The railing should reflect your design preferences just as you would decorate a room in your house. Just because it has a utility function, it does not need to be drab or unpleasant. Take advantage of new and modern styles to achieve the look you desire.

Here are some tips when learning how to put on porch railing:

• Measure carefully before making your final size choices for your railing. Be certain that the railing is tall enough that small children will be kept safe.

• Be sure that you can adequately secure the railing to the flooring and steps as well as to any adjacent walls, for stability.

• Don’t compromise safety for frugality. Think of your porch railing as an investment that will enhance your safe enjoyment of your house.

• Whether you install a wooden railing or a metal one, take steps to protect the porch under the railing when you attempt to paint it. Using a rust-resistant paint on metal railing or treated wood and a paint that will further seal it and protect it from the weather is your most sensible act when you are at the painting phase of the installation.

When you take the opportunity and time to install your drywall properly, you not only have an attractive finished wall surface, but you have affected how air-tight your home is! Drywall is commonly used now to construct interior walls in houses where plaster was used in former times. Drywall gives the dwelling a smooth, finished look. After it is properly installed, it may be painted or papered just as older plaster walls can, and serves as a durable, versatile way of constructing walls.

Drywall may be purchased at home goods stores in sheets which can then be matched and hung on the framing of the house. There is an art to aligning the pieces properly to provide gap-free walls and well-fitted corners. Ceilings may also be made of drywall.

Here are some tips to remember when you are learning how to install drywall properly:

• The temperature in the room where drywall is being installed should not be too low or too high. If the temperature is too low, the drywall may expand and not fit where it is installed, causing poorly closed seams and a poor appearance.

• If the drywall sheets are bumped in transit, that may result in cracking of the gypsum surface even if the paper on the surface remains unscathed. Be sure to check your drywall pieces for any evidence of damage before bringing them home to install. If you notice any damage once you have installed the drywall, fix any cracks in the drywall that are apparent.

• Take care to use the proper length of nails when nailing the drywall sheets into place. The recommended size of drywall sheets is ½ inches thick; the recommended nail size for that size is 1½ “ to secure the drywall to the framing.

• Take special care when joining the seams to attach the drywall carefully at the seams to close off all air.

Crown molding adds a finished, formal touch to any decorated room. Purely decorative in nature, this elegant molding presents a dramatic look to the room and contributes an air of elegance and flair to any house. It is that graceful, finished strip of wood which can be found at the tops of some interior walls evidencing a break between the room’s wall decoration and the beginning of the ceiling itself. A feature installed merely for looks and not at all structural or load bearing in nature, this decorative device has been in use for centuries in fine homes.

Here are a few tips and observations about how to install crown molding:

• Crown molding installation is not a job for the novice. It is important to learn which side of the crown goes up before you attempt installation, and that you learn how to properly cut the molding to achieve the desired look. Properly cut crown molding and installing it so that “up is up” is what makes the molding installation look elegant when the installation is complete.

• If you are not familiar with using an electric saw, enlist the help of a friend who is! Many of the installation techniques may involve using a saw in an upside-down position; this trick should not be attempted by someone unfamiliar with saws in the first place!

• Be aware that installing crown molding is more than just measuring pieces of molding and nailing them onto walls, if you want to get the true crown molding effect. Proficient installers use a miter and a bevel to achieve the elegant layered effect that most consumers associate with expertly-finished crown molding. Those techniques potentially involve some of the upside-down sawing with a power saw that was referenced above.

• Installation of crown molding is not a task for amateurs! Use care when undertaking the procedure! Watch out with that power saw on the ladder! Here are some tips to get out any scratches in your hard wood that may occur during the process of adding the crown molding.

Proper ventilation in your attic space is crucial to maintaining an even temperature in your attic space and consequently to maintaining a comfortable temperature in your home and maximizing the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems. Acquiring the correct type of attic ventilation system is important to ensure the comfort in your home temperature which will be easier on all of the occupants and even the pets!

When choosing an attic ventilation system, you need to first establish what goal you are trying to meet: cool air in the attic, a boost for your home’s heat and air system, or the many other functions that an appropriate attic ventilation system can aid by improving efficiency and economy. Possible types of attic ventilation to be considered for installation in your home include attic fans, mounted in the ceiling of the attic and venting to the roof, fans installed in an attic window, as are found in older homes, smaller turbine-type fans mounted through the roof, louvers installed in attic gables to permit air flow, solar-powered attic fan systems which require no electricity, and numerous other features which provide equally good ventilation for your attic.

Here are some tips to consider when learning how to install attic ventilation:

• First, find out whether the makers of the heating or cooling system in your huse have established any recommendations concerning attic ventilation to enhance the operation of their system(s).

• Consider the state of your attic as it exists now. Is there any operating or old, unused attic ventilation? If there is already pre-existing ventilation material present, can it be adapted to use again or does it need to be modified or removed to make way for a newer ventilation system?

• What pieces are you prepared to add to the new ventilation system. What, if any, modifications need to be made to the attic to complete the job? Can all of the new parts be obtained locally, or will they have to be ordered? Can you order them online, or will they need to be ordered through a store?

• Assemble all of the parts needed and determine from reading the instructions on each whether you are able to install these based on the instructions on the parts themselves.

Skylights afford the beauty of daylight in an inner space. A skylight involves cutting a whole into the ceiling, and surrounding it with flashing to prevent leaks while permitting the natural light to enter the room from above. There are many advantages of a skylight. The presence of the skylight will brighten any room where it is installed and bring the beauty of the outside world indoors!

Here are some things to be aware of as you learn how to install a skylight in your own home:

• Installation of a skylight is not a simple DIY project. Because it involves cutting through the roof of the house, extra care must be taken to ensure that there is no possibility of leakage. That plus the challenge of working up high poses some changes not common to routine DIY projects.

• The skylight kit you purchase for installation should have directions along with the unit about cutting the hole to the size required to accommodate the skylight.

• The skylight kit should also include instructions for framing it to receive the actual skylight, with added instructions pertaining to the installation of the flashing from the kit to prevent any leaking around the hole itself.
• Extra care should be taken when cutting through the drywall in the ceiling. Any leakage from the skylight can compromise the lifespan and appearance of the ceiling.

• Once the skylight is in place, be certain that you are aware of how to open the skylight, if it opens at all. Be sure you understand how to reseal the unit once it is opened to ensure a tight seal.

Wallpapers versatile adaptability, easy installation, and simple maintenance make it an ideal selection for all situations, from a residential dwelling to an elegant business setting. It is available in many different patterns and materials, making it an optimal choice to cover any wall in need of a little color or finish!

Wallpaper is an excellent DIY project for the eager decorator. With well chosen paper, thoroughly prepared walls, and wallpaper paste, the room being “papered” can usually be covered quickly in 1-2 days, if it is a regular-sized room, or 2-4 days if it is a larger room.

Follow these easy steps to hang your wallpaper like a pro:

• Your first focus will be on wall preparation. Be certain that the wall is smooth and clean. Use spackle or a similar compound to smooth out any cracks or gouges in the walls surface. Sandpaper the walls after applying spackle to ensure a smooth surface.
• While some wallpaper comes with glue already applied and only requires water to activate the glue for pasting purposes, most of the papers still require the application of glue to hang the paper and make it stick to the walls. Clear wallpaper glue is recommended.
• Be certain by measuring the wall space to be covered that you have sufficient paper to finish the job.
• Before hanging, cut the paper to be hung approximately 4 inches longer than the wall to be covered; that will allow a margin which can be trimmed off once the paper is hung on the wall, after the paper is smoothed flat from the top before it dries.
• Before gluing the strips of paper to the wall, lay them out on the floor to be certain that the pattern is matched at the seam. Tape the strips with removable painters tape.
• Mix the clear glue to be used in a paint tray; apply it to the back of the strips before hanging them. Smooth the paper from the center of the wall to its ends, both upward and downward, being sure that the seam patterns continue to match. After the paper has dried to the wall, cut off your margin at the bottom to ensure that the paper is straight.

If you make any errors why adding installing the wallpaper, here are three easy wallpaper repair tips.

Whether you are installing your first tile backsplash to be used in your home or replacing an existing one, a tile backsplash is an excellent way to protect your walls from being unexpectedly splattered by liquids such as water behind the sink or grease behind the stove. The walls shielded can be located behind the kitchen sink, behind a utility or crafts sink, under cabinetry in the kitchen or bath, behind a bathroom fixture, or behind the stove in the kitchen. Regardless of its location, the price of obtaining and installing the tile will be far outweighed by the protection the tile gives to the adjacent walls being shielded.

The tile chosen for this duty can be any heat resistant tile. Glazed, colorful tiles in compatible colors with the space where they are installed are a popular, decorative choice. The plus with these tiles is that they are easy to keep clean with only minor effort!

In order to competently install a tile backsplash, follow these simple instructions:

1. The wall the tiles will be placed on should be clean, smooth and dry before beginning the actual application of the tiles.
2. Set out or draw out the design as it will appear on the wall when the tile work is finished. 3. Be sure you measure and lay out all supplies carefully; it is easier to catch a mistake before it is glued tightly to the wall!
4. Apply mastic to the entire space to be covered with tile..
5. Set your field tile as a border along the bottom.
6. Cut any tiles that need cutting in order for them to fit.
7. Put in place the decorative tiles over the field tile border.
8. Apply grout to the tile work at the tile joints.
9. Notch the tiles with a wet saw to improve their ability to remain in place.
10. Clean the finished effect and check to be sure that all are caulked.
11. Enjoy your beautiful handiwork!

A drop ceiling can change the entire atmosphere and look of a room, making it cozier and more intimate. Having a dropped ceiling can also help to increase the efficiency of the heating of a room when used as a way of installing additional insulation for the room, which can be accomplished quickly if desired. Whether you are installing your dropped or recessed ceiling for decorative purposes or energy efficiency, a little work can result in a drastic change to the room and its intended use.

Follow these simple steps to recreate the room of your dreams:

1. First of all, as adjusting the ceiling may have implications for the electrical wiring in the room and any gas or water connections for the structure, it is essential that you consult your local building code to see if it has any special requirements for working with a drop ceiling.

2. Before getting started on the actual work, measure the space you are working with; you will need to build a grid to hold the new ceiling structure, whether it is made of tile or some other material. As you purchase your materials after taking your measurements, buy more materials than you will actually need to provide you with not only extra materials to repair any initial construction mistakes, but so that you will have a few extra matching pieces for future repairs.

3. Based on your measurements, construct the grid piece that will hold your new ceiling, and attach it to the adjacent walls.

4. Affix the ceiling materials to the grid, and finish it by painting it the color of the existing room if needed.

Having a dog as a pet can be great, however if they shed it can be such a pain. There are ways to avoid your dog from shedding, but that doesn’t always work. The easiest way to keep your house clean is to frequently clean areas on which you dog frequently lays.

Normally dog hair is terrible hard to get off of furniture, but if you follow these simple steps you can remove dog hair with easily.

1. Gather together a small bucket of water, gloves, and a trash bag. The gloves can be rubber or latex.

2. Put the gloves over your hands and dip them into the water. Make sure that you allow the excess water to drip off because you do not want too much water on the gloves. They should be moderately damp.

3. Rub your hands, with the gloves on, across the surface. It is best to move in a circular motion because you will clump the hair into a central area.

4. Remove the hair with your hand and place it into the trash bag.

5. Repeat this process over all of your furniture, and the dog hair will be removed.

Doing this on a daily basis may sound like a lot of work, but it is well worth it. You can enjoy sitting on your furniture instead of worrying about the dog hair. Keeping your house clean and clear of dog hair can make you life much easier. By doing it on a regular basis you will not have to spend hours at a time trying to clear your house of dog hair.
