How To Grout Ceramic Tile

You may have just gone out and purchased some new ceramic tiles to spice up your home.  But what do you do once you have installed your beautiful new tile?  You will need to grout it between the spaces to add the finishing touch!  This is important as the tiles will not look complete without this step.

Grout comes in several different shades to match any décor and will blend right in with the color of tiles that you choose.  You will want to remember a few helpful tips and steps when doing your first grout job.

Here are some easy steps to follow to grout your existing tile:

1. You will need to mix up the dry grout with some water in a clean bucket.  Make sure you remove any lumps!

2. Remove the spacer that you placed when laying the tile and remove the thin set.

3. You must then push the grout into the spaces left between the ceramics and remove all extras with a grout float.

4. Use a sponge to clean off the extra grouting that you have on the tiles.  Remember to squeeze away the excess water in the sponge beforehand.

5. Move on to the next section.  This gives the last set a chance to dry.

Remember to allow no more than 15 minutes to pass before you wipe away the extra grout as it will dry and become difficult to remove.  Adding new tiles to your living space can add value and appeal to your home.  As you can see, it is a fairly simple process and one that can be done by almost any do-it-yourselfer!

If you where once afraid of grouting because you thought it would be hard or messy, think again!  Now you can feel confident about grouting any surface in your home.
