How to Remove Cat Urine from Your Floors

If you are like most people I am sure you have a cat that you love, or love to hate!  They can make your home smell very unpleasant if they do not use their litter pan like they where taught.  Cats are territorial and can spray in all areas of your home.  This can be very annoying and extremely unpleasant but there are some simple things you can do.

You may be asking yourself, how do I remove that awful smell?  Do I have to replace the flooring in order to get rid of it?

There are some things that you can do and here are just a few!

1. One of the most popular remedies for removing this type of smell is white vinegar.  While the smell may be off-putting, consider the alternative.  Using a three to one mixture of this and water is a remedy that has been around for quite some time.  The smell can soak into your floors, hardwood and all and can be very unpleasant.

2. Use an old cloth drenched in white vinegar and water.  You should first let the area dry before repeating the process.

3. This is also a great tip for your carpets as well but you will have to use a few extra steps and it takes more effort on your part.  Use the same method as above with the white vinegar and water mixture and apply to the area.  Let it dry completely and cover the area with baking soda and ¾ cup of 3% peroxide as well as one teaspoon of good dish soap.

4. Using an old brush and scrub the carpet and let it dry.

These steps should get out any cat odors but if it is still present you may want to try again.  Sometimes those tough smells take a little extra effort to get rid of!
